35,000 Applications have been made to build on Green Belt Land
Recent figures show that an additional 35,000 applications to build new homes on green built land were submitted across 2017, meaning that a record total number of 460,000 applications have been received to construct housing on protected land.
Over 24,000 homes have been constructed on UK green belt lad across the last nine years.
Although according to new building statistics from Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), more than 8,000 homes were built on the green belt, 4,800 built on brownfield sites and 3,300 built on undeveloped land. This represents an increase of 4,000 new build completions compared to 16-17.
In a new policy from the government on green belt building, ministers concluded by saying “The restrictions on the location of housing in the green belt are in place to prevent gradual erosion of green belt boundaries over time and to maintain openness.”
Huge opportunity to build on green belt
The UK government have today announced that they plan to make green belt land available for the construction of 275,000 new homes.
While the British public show concern at the figure, the reality is that we will be lucky if 50% of these houses actually get built.
The amount of land that is available isn’t the problem. In the UK, there is currently a lack of skilled labourers available to the large development companies.
While this is a problem for them, it is of a benefit to smaller scale developers. These developers have the ability to construct blocks of houses quickly for a record amount of profit, as you can see from our many successfully completed projects
Cheaper alternatives to green belt
Currently, only 12% of the land within England is green belt. This number looks set to dwindle if the current trend of green belt construction actually takes place. Something that is highly unlikely. While the housing crisis does argue a strong case for the requirement of this number of new properties, we believe that there are other ways to tackle the current situation.

Old dilapidated properties and commercial buildings can be developed into marketable properties that are ideal for the next generation.
Such developments can turn an unwanted property into family houses or flats. Each project offering the developer a strong return on investment.
